Malaysia Tender Brings 563 MW Of Winning Solar Projects

December 11 (Renewables Now) - Projects with a combined capacity of 563 MW have won the latest solar tender in Malaysia, which actually sought 460 MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity.

The Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC) presented results of the tender, which awarded contracts to projects of between 1 MW and 30 MW, reaching commercial operations in 2019-2020 . BayWa re, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (KLSE:TENAGA), Hanwha Energy and Scatec Solar (OSL:SSO) are among the winners.

The tender sought to award 360 MW in Peninsular Malaysia and 100 MW on islands. The actual results show that around 507 MW of the winning projects are in Peninsular Malaysia and less than 56 MW on Sabah and Labuan.

Around 1,640 MW of solar projects competed in the tender for long-term contracts with Tenaga Nasional Berhad or Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
